What We’re Reading This Summer

Summer is officially here, and it’s a great time to dive into those thrilling murder mysteries, captivating biographies and thought-provoking industry reads that have been collecting dust on our shelves. Whether at the lake, on the road or in the comfort of our air conditioned offices, we’ve been catching up on our summer reading. Here’s a look at some of the pageturners we’re currently enjoying:

Patrick Snyder, Designer

Deep Work by Cal Newport. He talks about avoiding distraction and focusing on meaningful work. The other books I want to make it through are Ed Catmull’s Creativity Inc.; Adam Grant’s Give and Take; and Robert Heinlein’s Stranger in A Strange Land.

Reese Turner, Designer

I’m catching up on some really electrifying instruction manuals.

Dave Svoboda, Web Programmer

The Harry Potter series and Dune.

Katie Goetz, Digital Strategist

I’ve been devouring recipe books and savoring Pretty Little Liars by Sara Shepard.

Ann Pedersen, Director of Strategic Communications

Golden Prey, a murder mystery by John Sanford; Quicksand by Malin Persson Giolito; and Cork Dork: A Wine-fueled Adventure Among the Obsessive Sommeliers by Bianca Bosker.

Sarah Whipkey, Creative Director/Copy

What To Expect When You’re Expecting (again) by Heidi Murkoff (I forgot a lot over the past seven years); Descent by Tim Johnston; and plenty of Creative Briefs.

Erica Rowe, Creative Director/Design

Hey Whipple, Squeeze This: The Classic Guide to Creating Great Ads  by Luke Sullivan and Edward Boches and Parenting with Love and Logic by Foster Cline and Jim Fay.

Nicole Schmoll, Content Strategist / Copywriter

A Clash of Kings by George R.R. Martin (which takes even longer to get through when you’ve already watched the HBO series); Walt Disney: The Triumph of the American Imagination by Neal Gabler; On Tyranny: Twenty Lessons From the Twentieth Century by Timothy Snyder (a very short, quick and enlightening read); and How to Read a Book: The Classic Guide to Intelligent Reading by Mortimer Adler.

What are you reading this summer? What good books would you recommend to others?
